An Introduction To Ford Trucks

The Ford Motor Company has been producing trucks since 1908. In recent decades, their trucks have become increasingly popular. So what are the most (and least) popular Ford Trucks? Most Popular: The F-Series trucks started production back in 1948, and have been the best selling trucks for the past 30 years. It has also been the best selling vehicle for more than 20 years in the US. What makes this truck so popular is its reliability, and durability, not to mention the Ford name backing it. F-150’s are one of the longest lasting trucks, many lasting 300,000 miles or better. They also have larger bolts to hold the bed of the truck on, providing more durability, more weight loads, and better safety ratings. Since 1948, eleven generations of this truck have been brought forth, and a twelfth generation is set to come with the 2009 line of trucks. The F-Series also offers many different sized trucks, and engine sizes. There is everything from the F-150, all the way up to the commercial sized F-750. However, recently, Ford has named the F-250/F-350 the “Super Duty”, which split the class of trucks into two different categories.What makes these trucks “Super Duty” trucks is that they are more powerful than the F-150, and are also available in diesel engines. In 2007, Ford introduced the completely redesigned 2008 Super Duty, which had many new features, including a hidden slide-out step, and a swing up hand grab bar in the tailgate, which allows for easier access to the trucks bed. The new PowerStroke Turbo diesel engines are also quieter, and have emissions comparable to that of the gasoline engines. Least Popular: The less popular Ford Ranger started production in 1983. Unlike the F-Series, the Ranger has declined in popularity, and there have been rumors of its discontinuation. This is due in part to the redesigned and well marketed other brands of compact trucks, including the Dodge Dakota, and Toyota Tacoma. These redesigned trucks were moved up in class from “compact” trucks, to “mid-size”, leaving the Ranger as the only compact truck on the market. Compared to the F-Series who has had eleven generations, the Ranger has had only four since its debut in the 1980’s. Though there have been many rumors surrounding the discontinuation of this truck, The Ford Motor Company issued a statement in November, 2007, saying that they would continue production for the 2009 model.Ford’ s Involvement in Hybrid Trucks: While Ford has not developed a Hybrid truck as of yet, they have developed a number of vehicles, such as the Ford Escape Hybrid. Ford seems to be focusing their efforts on alternative fuels for their trucks rather than hybrids. This is most likely due to the amount of power needed to run the trucks.
